Warm clothes, blankets needed for new refugees

Six new Burmese families just arrived from the Thai refugee camp last night with children ages 2 (boy),6(girl) and 8(boy), and one expecting mother.  They have no warm clothes or bedding, esp blankets. 

We are looking for the following to help these families get the basic neccesities as they prepare for the very difficult adjustment ahead.

We working with the Oakland Burmese Fellowship Church to store and distribute these clothes. 

If you are willing to donate any of the following, please consider donating:

  • Small-medium sized children's clothes appropriate for cold weather.  Please no stains or holes.
  • Adult jackets(small and medium sizes only please),
  • bedding/blankets
  • beds/mattresses

Please only donate items that are clean and in good condition. Please, no stains, holes, etc.

On Saturday, 2/26 from 2-5pm: Oakland Burmese Fellowship Church, 524 22nd Street, Oakland CA 94612

LFCD Executive Director recognized at Women's History Celebration

Kathy Chao Rothberg will be among several women honored this evening by Contra Costa College and the West Contra Costa Branch of the American Association of University Women at the 11th Annual National Women's History Month Celebration. The theme this year is "Our History is Our Strength."
Women throughout our service area will be acknowledged for their community contributions and advocacy.

CAL Expo, Sacramento, April 1-4, 2011

Oakland Coliseum, April 9-12, 2011

DENTAL: Cleanings, fillings, extractions. Pediatric dentistry is available.

VISION: Vision exam and free prescription glasses made onsite. (NOTE: As time and supplies permit - May not be able to make glasses for everyone.)

MEDICAL: Pediatric exams; adult physicals & medical consults (including diabetes and hypertension); chiropractors; acupuncture; blood lab work; chest X-rays; medication assistance; and many other medical specialties available.

Services provided by Remote Area Medical® volunteers are intended for the uninsured, underinsured, unemployed, underemployed, and those who cannot afford to pay. Services are provided by volunteer doctors, nurses, dentists, dental hygeinists, dental assistants, ophthalmologists, optometrists, opticians, and other trained health professionals from the State of California.
