Lao Family was a 2010 Bank of America Neighborhood Builders Awardee
The Neighborhood Builders Awards are a part of Bank of America’s signature philanthropic program, the Neighborhood Excellence Initiative which recognizes, nurtures, and rewards community-based organizations, local heroes and student leaders working to improve their communities. Each year, Bank of America selects two outstanding nonprofit/charitable organizations for each of their 45 markets.
The Neighborhood Builders benefit from:
- $200,000 in general operating support
- Leadership Development for their Senior executive and an emerging leader
Lao Family was a 2009 Chevron California Partnership awardee
Chevron Corporation’s California Partnership initiative was created to invest in education and economic development with partners that have proven track records of delivering economic and educational benefits to those in need.
"Communities in California are facing extraordinary challenges accessing the resources they need to be successful during these turbulent economic times," said Matt Lonner, manager of Global Partnerships and Programs at Chevron. "Innovative partnerships between private and nonprofit organizations are needed to invest in opportunities and solutions. Chevron's California Partnership is a renewed commitment on the part of our company to work with the organizations that can deliver the programs that our communities need, and invest in the future of our home state."
To date, more than 20 nonprofit organizations and multiple public school districts across California have received investments through Chevron's California Partnership. Lao Family was awarded $250,000 in 2009 to further on-the-job training opportunities for limited English, low-income individuals in Contra Costa County.
